Former Cabinet Minister Georgina Te Heuheu’s husband Timoti (“Timi”) te Heuheu, brother of Sir Tumu te Heuheu, the paramount chief of Ngāti Tuwharetoa, and son of Sir Hepi Te Heuheu has passed away in the early hours of the morning today.
Timi te Heuheu is one of Māori’s senior statesmen, a lively figure who worked tirelessly as a tribal diplomat and link between iwi Māori, politics and business.
He will be taken to Waihi Marae on the shores of Lake Taupo today where he will lay in state.

Timi Te Heuheu and I worked in close association in forest production management during the 1970′s and 80′s within the Fletcher Forests company structure based at Taupo. Our team was the richer for Timi’s presence and gentlemanly participation. Even in those times Timi was heavily involved in community liasons and worked hard to balance these comittments along with the full time comittment to the company.
Farewell old friend. You did set an example to all who were associated with you.
